The quest to feed the masses here something healthy, that is enough (they never seem to fill-up), that falls into the ‘teen’ food category, never seems to end. Yes, we often fall into the ‘chicken again’ trap, so when I say burgers are for dinner, little eyes widen and ‘YESSSSS’ is exclaimed excitedly. They could care less that they are good for you, high protein, veggie included turkey burgers.
I am one of those ‘grill all year long’ people. I am also one of those ‘grill in any weather’ people – yes, from snow to thunderstorms to 105 degree heat waves, I grill in it all. No grill? No worries? Don’t feel as daring to make a dash in a thunderstorm to serve a burger to your BAE, it’s ok! (that was super cheesy but I’m leaving it in there!) I actually made this batch in the kitchen while cooking a few other things so I could keep an eye on everything.
Like all the recipes I share with you, this is basic, an outline really for a simple turkey burger that you can use as is, or switch up the spices and veggies to create your own! I know I’ve said before that I like a little something green in all my dishes, here I put one of my freezer staples in, frozen spinach. You can leave it out or add something different if you’d like. It’s really all about being as creative as you’d like – some like that, others just want a basic ‘let me get to it’ kind of recipe. Here you can have it either way.
- 3 lbs ground turkey
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup bread crumbs
- ½ cup chopped spinach (we used frozen, fresh is fine too)
- ¾ tsp garlic powder
- ½ small onion grated
- 2 pinches salt
- ½ tsp celery salt
- Mix all ingredients together. We use a ¾ cup dry measure cup to measure out the amount of mixture to make into a patty - we get 8 patties out of this recipe!
